Amazing stories
Reena Takhar
'I'm studying to be a doctor, so I've seen how important blood is
to hospital patients. As part of my studies, I get to see the many
different ways that blood helps.
'Giving blood is something I've always thought I should do, but it
still took me a little while to get round to it - even though I know
that blood is always needed.
'Honestly, I never thought it could be so easy to save a life. All
I have to do is turn up at the session - it takes just under an hour,
and only about ten minutes of that is actually giving blood. Please
join me and give blood yourself.' |

'I've been giving blood since I was 18. I remember reading about
it, and thinking that it was a good thing to do. You always hope
that there'll be blood if you or anyone you know needs it.
'I actually find it quite an easy experience. And it takes much
less time than you'd think. The nurses always make me feel so comfortable
that the time passes really quickly. The giving blood bit is over
in about ten minutes.
'I come as often as I can - three times a year - because I know how
much blood is needed, and how easy it is to do. I hope you'll give
blood soon, and then you can find out for yourself.'

'I've given blood more than 70 times now. It’s just something
that I do as part of my routine. When you think about it, giving
blood three times a year isn't much to ask, especially when you
could help to save someone's life.
'I hardly feel anything, and the staff at the session are always
so welcoming. It's like meeting up with old friends. And of course,
it's not all that often that a plumber like me gets to feel like
a hero!
'I just pop along to a session near my home. The giving blood bit
only takes about ten minutes, and then I have a short rest. The
whole things take less than an hour, and afterwards I just get on
with the rest of my day. It really is that easy to save a life.' |

'I've been giving blood for two or three years now. I do it as often
as I can - three times a year if I can make it. And if I miss the
session I'm invited to, I know that I can easily find another one
in my area.
'I think everyone should do it. It doesn't take much time. You barely
feel a thing. And you could help save a life. It really is that
simple. Please do it if you can'

'I've been giving blood since I was a student. I come along to a
session three times a year, whenever I get the letter telling me
it's time to give. It's really handy that they remind me, so giving
blood is just part of my routine now.
'Every time I give blood, I think about the people I could be helping.
It's amazing really, that something so easy for me to do could help
save someone's life.
'I'm always trying to get my friends and family to come along, to
see how easy it is. Please try it yourself - it will take less than
an hour of your time, and you actually help to save a life.' |

'I give blood in my lunch hour, because it takes so little time,
and that way I can easily fit it into my working day. I give blood
three times a year. It's not too much to ask, especially when you
think how much good your blood can do.
'At first, I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be big enough to
give blood, because I'm what you might call petite. The nurses weigh
me every time, to check that it's safe for me to give.
'I've got to say that giving blood is much easier than I imagined.
I hardly ever feel a thing, and it's all over so quickly. To be
honest, I think everyone who can do it, should do it. I hope you
will.' |
